The Work Safe Access Story
Wooden ramps have a typical lifespan of 3-5 years. Any longer and wooden ramps become dangerous and run the risk of collapsing and becoming a slip hazard, putting anyone who uses them at risk. Plus, replacing necessary ramps for access to schools and other public entities every 3-5 years to ensure safe access is costly.
Working in the modular construction industry, the founders of Work Safe Access watched their customers struggle with the wooden ramps they needed to pair with their relocatable buildings, and they wanted to build a durable alternative that would last longer than the lifespan of any building.
In 1999, Tom Coyle and Terri Gordon founded Welcome Ramps to do just that. They developed an aluminum ramp with a simplistic design that could be installed by anyone. They sold their first ramp to a school district in Washington State whose wooden ramps were ready to collapse and then they were able to use them as a point of reference to begin providing ramps for other school districts.
Back then, they didn’t even have a website. All of their customers came from word of mouth, networking, and pounding the pavement. Terri would hop in her little pick up truck and drive all over the Pacific Northwest talking with folks and showing them the durability and simplicity of their aluminum ramps in real time. It wasn’t long before Welcome Ramps began selling themselves because of their design.
Over the years, Welcome Ramps expanded into two additional brands and product offerings including, Work Safe Access and Dumpster Access. Today, the company is known solely as Work Safe Access and provides IBC, ADA, and OSHA-Compliant access systems including, stairs, rails, decks, catwalks, ships ladders, and dumpster access that ensure a safe, user-friendly performance in any environment with a relentless customer-first approach.
While the company has grown and evolved over the years, the design of its products and top-notch customer service remains the same. Since its founding over two decades ago, Work Safe Access didn’t just provide an alternative to wooden ramps, it changed the industry.
Now, Work Safe Access products have become an accepted practice by architects and engineers, and they know our products as well as we do. Using Work Safe Access systems has become the best practice.
Once someone uses our products, they never look back.
A Relentless Customer-first commitment
Accessing generators, dumpsters, jobsite trailers, and rooftops can be perilous for your workers. Slips, falls, trips, and injuries from unsafe walkways, ramps, and stairs results in 27% of workplace and jobsite injuries. Plus, all public entities are required to have ADA accessibility. Work Safe Access is committed to providing IBC, ADA, and OSHA compliant systems that ensure a safe, user-friendly performance in any environment with a relentless customer-first approach.
